The Jewish Learning Blog

Welcome To The Jewish Learning Blog!

About Me

Hi! My name is Yakov Barber, and like all other bloggers I'll begin by telling you a bit about myself.

I grew up in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, and went to Yeshiva in New York, Manchester, and Baltimore. I got my rabbinical ordination from Rabbi Zalman Labkowski, at the central Chabad yeshiva at 77o Eastern Parkway. I currently live in San Francisco, with my wife and 2 daughters, and work alongside my brother-in-law Rabbi Nosson Potash, as a rabbi at Chabad of Cole Valley.

In my free time you can find me drinking coffee, making sourdough, listening to music, and thinking about just about anything.

About This Blog

I'm very excited to announce the Jewish Learning Blog! In this blog I will be discussing Jewish subjects, history, & texts. The difference between this blog and other Jewish blogs, is that here the format will be a text based discussion of a subject. I will begin by quoting a Jewish text or texts in English, and will go on to write what I think about it/them.

The goal of this blog is, to help people learn more about Judaism, directly from the source. The blog posts will come out periodically, and will usually be themed around something that has to do with that time of year, whether it be the weekly torah portion, an upcoming Jewish holiday, or something related to current events.

Hope you enjoy!

Rabbi Yakov Barber
