About the event

Rosh Hashana is known to be one of the most important days on the Jewish calendar. The question is, what exactly is this day all about? The Talmud writes that on Rosh Hashana the whole world is judged, and that everything that will happen in the coming year is decided then. But why is there a judgement day in the first place? Another question, during the Rosh Hashana prayers we throw around the word king at least a thousand times. What's up with that? Is this flattery?

Join us for the two Mondays before Rosh Hashana, where we will discuss this fascinating subject!

In week one we will cover the following subjects:

  • What is Rosh Hashana according to Talmudic sources
  • When God created the world, he created a ten part system through which he would create the world, and interact with it. These ten parts consist of intellect, emotions, motivations and drives. When God created humanity, he created them in the image of that system. This ten part system is known in Hebrew as the ten sefirot. Understanding this subject is needed in order to understand the kabbala of Rosh Hashana.

This Lunch & Learn will be given by Rabbi Yakov Barber.
